Its small beach features a superb sandy shore with lovely waters and a small harbour that looks out to a small island complex, Messenian Oinousses, in the southwest of the Peloponnese. Sapientza, the biggest of these islands, hosts a stone lighthouse from 1885, while the group is completed by Schiza and Agia Marina, the smallest of the three with a church of the same name at its centre. It's an idea spot for those in search of relaxation and nature-lovers. The village has five camping facilities, four of which are on the same beach.
The area spread out behind the small harbour is the most picturesque part of the village. Old whitewashed two-storey houses, some of them neoclassical in style, paved alleys and an assortment of small shops, from cafes to neighbourhood stores and tavernas, are hidden amid the narrow streets.

Finikounda is now one of the major tourist resorts of Messinia, combining harmonically mountain and sea. The attention of the visitors mainly attract the stunning sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. Also, the picturesque landscape and the excellent tourist infrastructure have made Finikounda a popular summer destination.
There are several restaurants and traditional taverns where you can enjoy, among other, fresh fish and delicious dishes of the Messinian kitchen. Here there are also many cafes to enjoy a coffee and many tourist shops to explore.
Some of the local cuisine distinct flavors are the salted, the goat stew, the fried cod with the garlic sauce, roast pork, and the unique for their taste and quality, smoked sausages with sage. Try also wonderful diples, lalagia and ladokouloura (rolls with olive oil). Do not forget to buy the famous Kalamata olives, honey, that is of excellent quality, pastels, ouzo, balsamic vinegar, trachana, noodles and herbs .
